The City

The city itself is mostly made of adobe (clay) bricks and fired clay tiles that are made with the earth found in the region. The streets are often cobblestone, rock or dirt and rugged in nature.

Cusco is a traditional Andean region and is home to indigenous farming communities that produce a large portion of the Peruvian agriculture: potatoes, corn, vegetables and wheat. The native language spoken is Quechya that derives from the actual Inca civilizations as well as Spanish which arrived with the Spanish conquest.

Cusco is an interesting mix of traditional Andean farmers, and more educated classes of people, Peruvians who have moved from different parts of Peru and tourists from all around the world, many who come to Cusco and get pulled in by its magic and never leave.
