  Manos Unidas has partnered with Therapists without Borders. We offer two different volunteer programs:

  • Long term Volunteer Program
  • Professional Exchange Program

MU/ThwB accepts students, recent graduates and professionals in the following fields:  Speech Therapy, Psychology, Physical/Occupational Therapy, Art/Music Therapy, Young Adults with Disabilities, Autism Education, Other Related Fields

Long Term Volunteer Program

DESCRIPTION
Volunteers work on a daily basis at our special education school and are placed based on their skills and experience. Placements are in early childhood, elementary or primary classrooms, school inclusion schools or the young adult vocational training program. Additional opportunities are available to work in orphanages, rural communities, home visits, family workshops, teacher training and specialized therapies.

DURATION
1-6 months
March–December



INCLUDED
Accommodation with a local family, 3 meals per day, support with travel arrangements, pre-departure preparation, airport pickup, cultural orientation and introduction, volunteer support throughout the program, administration fees,  and a direct donation to Manos Unidas.

COST
$1030 total fee for first month
$530 for each additional month in homestay

$250 for each additional month in independent living conditions
*program costs are arranged on an individual basis and are flexible

 

ACOMMODATION

Homestay: Volunteers will be placed with a  Peruvian family where both food and accommodation will be provided. The homestay will include 3 meals a day.

 VOLUNTEER SUPPORT

Manos Unidas volunteer coordinator will provide a brief city tour/orientation, medical support, assistance with arranging local tours/trips, optional arrangement of Spanish classes, housing support and continual guidence with your work at the school. We will help you develop professional goals as well as personalize your volunteer experience

 

THIS PROGRAM REQUIRES AT LEAST A BEGINNING LEVEL OF SPANISH

Professional Exchange Program

DESCRIPTION

This program is designed to give professionals an opportunity to contribute their knowledge and experience in a teacher-training format. Their time is spent holding workshops for groups of local teachers and professionals, observing and consulting classrooms and collaborating one-on-one with the teachers at Camino Nuevo. Professionals may participate in specific campaigns that will be held throughout the year. The goal of this program is to provide a cultural exchange opportunity within their profession.

DURATION

7-14 days  March-December

INCLUDES

Accommodation with a local Peruvian family, 3 meals a day, support with travel arrangements, translators, volunteer support throughout the program, workshop organization, administration fees and a direct donation to Manos Unidas

COST

Professional Volunteer Program (7-14 days)
- $550 First week  (7 days)
- $35 each additional day

*program costs are arranged on an individual basis and are flexible

ACOMMODATION

Professional Volunteers will be comfortably accommodated with a local host family , provided with 3 meals/day.

VOLUNTEER SUPPORT

Brief city tour and orientation, goal setting, medical support, assistance with arranging local tours, organization of workshops, translation of presentations and materials

*Spanish is not required for this program as provided with translators, but is helpful

All applications will be processed jointly with Therapists without Borders

3. You will be contacted within 15 days to arrange a phone or skype interview

4. We will arrange a live Skype Spanish conversation to asess language skills with Spanish In Vivo (for Long Term Vol Program)

5. Manos Unidas and Therapists without Borders will determine acceptance to the volunteer program

6. $150 deposit to Manos Unidas to secure your volunteer placement within 15 days of  acceptance to the program

7. Volunteer Fee must be paid in FULL 15 days prior to start date.

 

Why pay to volunteer?

Manos Unidas is looking for volunteers who are committed to their learning experience and see the opportunity as an "exchange of information and experiences ".   55% of the fees cover room and board. The other percent helps support our initiatives in the local community. 15% of the MU budget is covered by volunteers. The remaining fee is dedicated to ensuring a positive experience both pre-departure, during your time and once back home.
